Built in 1400, Palazzo Galvani is now home to Bologna's Archaeological Museum. It was founded in 1881, as a result of the merger of two museums - university and municipal. The museum has more than 3,500 objects and one of the most crucial archaeological collections in Italy. It is also a strong representative of local history from the Prehistoric period to the Roman era. The ancient Egyptian collection is among the most important in Europe. The museum has an educational department, a specialized library with a reading room, a historical archive, a restored laboratory, specialized access for visitors with disabilities, rooms for temporary compositions, a conference hall and a bookstore.
