Падуа, Италија

Santa Giustina is a 6th century basilica in the center of the city of Padua, Italy. Santa Giustina by Paolo Veronese is a Christian patron saint of Padua.

The basilica was built in 520 by Prefect Opilius, with the aim of enshrining the remains of Giustina, as well as the other martyrs of the city. In 1117, a great earthquake destroyed the basilica and the Benedictine monastery. In 1174, the basilica and monastery were rebuilt, and the remains of the patron saint of the abbey, as well as those of the Evangelist Luke and the Apostle Matthias, were discovered during excavations. The complex was again destroyed in 1502 and rebuilt from 1532 to 1579 by different architects, Andrea Moroni and Andrea de Valle. In the XV-XVI centuries, the basilica was one of the most important basilicas in the region. The building was converted into a Catholic church in 1917 by Pope Benedict XV.
