Virgin Mary is a basilica located in the town of Elche, Spain. It was built on the foundations of a mosque. When James I conquered the city, he consecrated the mosque for Christian ceremonies, dedicating it to the Virgin Mary. The basilica underwent remodeling due to its deteriorating condition and was renovated in the Gothic-Renaissance style. The current building dates from the 17th century, when it was last renovated. The entrance door of San Agatangelo is completely Baroque. The basilica is distinguished by its blue dome.
