The ancient theater was built by the ancient Greeks in the 4th century BC. The preserved appearance to this day is due to the Romans, who upgraded it and added a brick stage in the period from the 1st to the 3rd century. Theatarot is not distinguished by its large dimensions, but its location makes it particularly valuable. It is embedded in the rocks of a hill, taking advantage of its natural panoramic view of the scene and Mount Etna, the mountain ranges and the Ionian Sea. Today, the theater continues to be the center of social life in Taormina. It hosts the Taormina Film Festival and a number of dazzling performances.
