The Kefichtturm prison tower is part of the old fortress at the end of the Marktgasse in Bern's Old Town. The first building on the site of today's tower was built in 1256 as part of the second fortress and was demolished in 1640 to be replaced by a new building designed by Josef Plep. Until 1897, the tower served as an enclosure. Its height is 49 meters.
