The houses in the streets were built in the 16th century to accommodate the castle guards. Many famous writers lived on this street, including Kafka. The name of the Golden Street is in all probability connected with the legends about the local craftsmen who processed the precious metal. There are many romantic and mysterious stories about the place, some of which, unfortunately, have not been proven. According to legends, alchemists lived on this street along with many other masters, who sought the secrets of the Philosopher's Stone in order to produce gold. Legend has it that some of them actually succeeded.
