Mohammed Ali Pasha Maserli or Mohammed Ali Pasha Masarli was born in the city of Kavala, or from the small settlement of the village of Mustral in the vicinity, in 1769. Mohammed Ali Pasha is considered the founder of modern Egypt. The dynasty he created continued to rule until 1952.
Mohammed Ali’s Residence is believed to be one of the most characteristic surviving examples of 18th-century Ottoman architecture in Greece. In its south section is the selamlik, containing the men’s places, where the they spent their days and worked, the pasha’s private room, and the gathering areas for visitors.
