The exact year of the foundation of Mantamados is not clear. Archaeological excavations reveal that the village was founded BC. It is believed that the income of the village comes from the livestock that grazed near it in the past. The villagers called this cattle mantados. Today, Mantamados is known for its pottery workshops. The biggest attraction in the village is the "Taxiarchis" monastery, in which there is a unique icon made of clay, mixed with the blood of 17 monks killed during an attack by pirates.
