Its foundations were laid on 20.02.1970 and it was opened on 29.10.1973 - on the day of the 50th anniversary of the proclamation of Turkey as a Republic. 35 Turkish engineers and 400 builders participated in the construction. The "Ataturk" bridge in Istanbul is 1560 m long and 33 m wide. The distance between the pillars is 1074 m. The height of the bridge is 64 meters. 10,412 steel cables stretch between the two pillars of the bridge. Crossing the bridge is paid. It is prohibited for pedestrians.
