Ile La Cité is the larger of the two islands in the Seine River in the center of Paris. La Cité is the nucleus around which the city develops. This place was chosen by the first settlers to create their city of Lutecia. Although over the years the city has expanded around the island, it remains its legal and religious center. Here is the cathedral "Notre Dame de Paris", the first royal palace (the current Court), the Gothic church "La Chapelle". The island is connected to the two banks of the river and to the neighboring island of Saint Louis with the help of nine bridges. It is visited by many tourists at any time of the year.
