Пештерата Маара

Драма, Грција

Maara (Agitis) is one of the most famous caves in Greece. In addition to being the second longest in the country, here are some of the largest cave halls, as well as unique cave formations. It is located in Drama Prefecture. The cave is the largest river cave in the world with a length of 21 kilometers. The temperature inside is constant throughout the year: 17°C in the air and 13°C in the water. The cave is suitable for visiting at a depth of about 500 m. The name of the cave has Arabic origins and means small cave. Many archaeological discoveries were found in the cave, the most famous of which is the remains of a mammoth and can be seen today in the Archaeological Museum in Drama.
