Plebiscito Square is located in the central and historical part of the city of Napoli, Southern Italy. The square's name comes from a referendum passed on October 2, 1860, after which Napoli joined the United Kingdom of Italy under the rule of the Savoy dynasty. The construction of the square began during the time of the Bonaparte king Joachim Murat and ended during the time of the Bourbon king Ferdinand IV. On the square are the Royal Palace, the Church of San Francesco di Paola, the Palace of Salerno, and the Opera House of San Carlo. Many events are held here, from rock events to New Year's festivals.
