Попокатепетл

Пуебла, Мексико

Popocatepetl is an active stratovolcano located in the state of Puebla, Mexico. It is 5,426 meters high, making it the second highest point in Mexico after Pico de Orizaba and the fifth highest point in North America. Literally, the name can be translated as "The mountain that smokes". The volcano has been active since 1947, until recently it was one of the three high peaks in Mexico with glaciers. In the 1990s, glaciers such as the Northern Glacier significantly decreased, mostly due to increased volcanic activity.
