Porto Lagos is a village located in a beautiful bay 25 km southeast of the town of Xanthi and 25 km from Komotini. The village is a fishing and rice center. There are beaches and a port. The delta of the Mesta River near Porto Lagos is over a kilometer wide, and around it are the richest rice fields in Greece. Various species of birds live in Lake Vistonis and the coastal lagoons near the village - pink flamingos, pelicans, swans and other sea and freshwater birds. Near Porto Lagos is the monastery of "St. Nikola", completely built in the water.
