Римскиот форум во Атина

Атина, Грција

The construction of the Roman Forum was finally completed in 11 BC, thanks to donations from Gaius Julius Caesar and Octavian Augustus. During the Roman Empire, it was connected to the ancient agora, which is placed at the foot of the Acropolis. It is of impressive dimensions, its length reaches 111 meters and its width 98 meters.

The forum has an internal rectangular courtyard, which was surrounded by shops, warehouses and colonnades in the Ionic style. During the time of Emperor Hadria, the courtyard was covered with terracotta tiles. In 267, as a result of attacks on the city, the center of Athens moved from the old agora to the Roman forum and Hadrian's library. During the Byzantine period and the Turkish occupation, houses, craft workshops and churches were built in the vicinity of the forum.
