Wilde's sculpture was commissioned in 1997 to pay tribute to one of Ireland's most precious sons. It is located in the park of the largest square in Dublin - Merrion. Around the square are the most important buildings in the city - the National Gallery, the National Museum and the seat of the Irish Parliament.
Mermeroth was considered displeased with the construction of the monument, so three different patterned stones were used, each from a different continent. The torso is of green nephrite from British Columbia and pink tula from Norway, the legs are of Norwegian granite with blue pearl, and the shoes are of material from India and finished with bronze laces. The statue also has a tie and three rings - Wilde's wedding ring, one for good luck and one for bad luck. This is the first statue in his honor in the 97 years since his death.
